The IMAGINE project launched the “True or False” campaign to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in nursing homes, This initiative aimed to debunk myths about antibiotics and highlight their responsible use.
Around 50% of antibiotics prescribed for urinary tract infections in nursing homes were unnecessary. The IMAGINE project’s audit revealed that inappropriate antibiotic use was widespread, especially across Europe. Let’s change that!
Elderly residents in nursing homes were particularly vulnerable to infections and adverse drug reactions. Proper hygiene, including handwashing and anogenital hygiene, was critical in preventing the spread of infections.
The campaign tackled common myths about AMR and provided evidence-based facts on antibiotic use, infection prevention, and reducing healthcare costs. Running from Nov 18-24, it aimed to educate both professionals and the public.
AMR is a global health crisis, responsible for 35,000 deaths annually in the EU alone. The IMAGINE project, supported by the EU, worked to reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions in nursing homes and combat the rise of resistant infections.
