During the latest meeting of the IMAGINE Project members in Lithuania, Marie Theut, PhD Student, Medical Doctor, Herlev og Gentofte Hospital (Denmark), explained how the development of the initiative’s tools has been.

Specifically, Theut explained that the feedback received from participants during the audit phase has been very important for the team. Thanks to this feedback, they have been able to develop posters and informational flyers on various issues they have observed. Among the topics addressed, infection prevention and the goal of using fewer antibiotics have been particularly highlighted.

For Anne Marie Theut, the participation of nursing home staff was fundamental. Thanks to their feedback, they wanted to ensure that the tools they created are useful for them. It is still too early to know if this has been achieved, but they trust that including them in the development process will make the tools effective and practical.

In this regard, according to Anne Marie Theut, the diversity of perspectives and experiences has enriched the development of the tools, allowing challenges to be addressed from multiple angles. So, the committee members want to express their gratitude for the commitment and dedication of all the participants.

IMAGINE Project is an initiative aimed at reducing the excessive and inappropriate use of antibiotics, the main driver of antimicrobial resistance, which is especially problematic in older patients. To this end, an audit has been carried out in nursing homes in eight European countries (Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Denmark, and Spain) to find and improve infection prevention and control measures.
