From 18th to 20th June, the XLIV Jornadas de Economía de la Salud, organised by the Spanish Health Economics Association (AES), took place in Madrid under the theme “Healthcare strategies for a global future: efficacy, efficiency and sustainability”. The event was held at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the Complutense University of Madrid and brought together over 250 health economists, professionals, and policymakers to discuss major healthcare challenges and explore innovative, evidence-based solutions to improve health systems and population wellbeing.

The opening ceremony featured a welcome address by Spain’s Minister of Health, Mónica García Gómez, who underscored the value of initiatives such as the AES conference in tackling health inequalities and shaping more equitable healthcare systems.

As part of the long-term care session, Work Package 5 (WP5) from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) presented preliminary findings from the IMAGINE Project. The presentation, titled “Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a multifaceted intervention to reduce infections and improve antibiotic use in European nursing homes”, shared early results suggesting a reduction in urinary tract infections (UTIs) and a decrease in unnecessary treatments—pointing towards encouraging trends in clinical outcomes.

The congress offered a valuable platform for sharing insights, gathering expert feedback, and fostering connections with colleagues across Spain and beyond. It also served as an opportunity to raise awareness about the IMAGINE Project’s ongoing contributions to improving infection control and antibiotic stewardship in long-term care facilities.
